2008 is rapidly drawing to a close and with it, this National Year of Reading. It has been an exceptional year for me as far as reading goes: 68 books so far and still time to squeeze in one more. This blog was set up as my contribution to the National Year of Reading and I’ve had a lot of fun doing it. I’d like to end by thanking everyone for dropping by. Also, a big thank you to the publishers who gave me permission to feature their titles on here, but more especially, to all the writers without whose books I would lead a very ordinary life.
Happy reading in 2009!

A change of themery

If you are thinking that things are looking different here, then you’d be thinking right. I’ve been tinkering with my “theme” as something about the other one was bugging me – the way that “jump to comments” tag kept mucking up my nicely aligned posts! So although it now seems like my trolley has shrunk, I’ll stick with this one for now.

Making a spectacle of myself

I got some new specs this week, Linda and Mark at the opticians had persuaded me to try something different, designer frames – a bit of a departure for me. When I got home I asked my nearest and dearest what they thought, the dialogue went something like this:
Offmytrolley: “I got my new glasses today, what do you think?”
Daughter: “Mmm they’re OK, but what’s that funny squiggle on the side?”
Offmytrolley: “It’s not a squiggle, it’s a G.”
Daughter: “So what does it stand for?”
Offmytrolley: “Guess.”
Daughter: “Gnome?” “Goblin?” “Gremlin?”
Husband: (Looking up from newspaper) “Gullible.”
Funny how nobody came up with “Glamorous!”

Following on from the argument a van had with our garden wall recently (see offmyface), I am happy to report that a builder has been given the go ahead by our insurance company and the bricks are on order. Also, our little family of wrens (oblivious to all the commotion) have made their way into the big wide world.
